Demolition Contractors are the Original Environmentalists!

It is something that not many people may realize, but demolition contractors are actually the original innovators in “green” construction.

The nature of the demolition industry is such that contractors have had to come up new and innovative ways of re-using material and diverting waste from demolition sites. Although waste diversion has its value as an environmental concern, it can also contribute to good corporate citizenship and community development by showcasing how “old” material can become new again. The picture below shows a hollowed out building that Abbey had worked on by first salvaging any re-usable material before the demolition process and re-using it for new construction projects.

Being “green” is not always about recycling, because recycling can also contribute to increased CO2 emissions.  Being an environmentally conscious demolition contractor also means re-using any material that is still viable, as well as reducing the amount of material that is being used in the first place.  This all falls under the Ontario Government’s program of the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) that Abbey Demolition has been following since we opened our business.

So, although demolition contractors are not often credited as being environmentalists, we are always coming up with new and economically efficient ways of managing commercial, industrial and residential waste products. Some of these ways are then used by other industries to further the project of keeping communities clean, green and prosperous.
